Last minute finish.......

In my quest to clean out my scrap box, by cutting ready to use squares,

I came across 16 pinwheel blocks leftover from this quilt.

I took a little break from cutting to stitch this 22" square mini-quilt.

It was a fun welcome break!

Scrappy Block Challenge

Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict has posted a Scrappy Block Challenge.

My first block is made with 4 - 5" squares.

The light pieces are 5" squares cut in half

and the corner stones are a 5" square quartered.

The 2nd block consists of 4 - 4 square blocks.

Any size squares could be used,

the sample is made with 16 - 3" squares.

Either block could be laid out in an updated

Irish Chain pattern.

Yes, I still lay out designs with pencil and graph paper :)

Zig-Zag Teddy Bear Baby Quilt

I pieced this top a few years ago after seeing this tutorial.
Finally decided to quilt it this week - love the result!!
This one will go in my stash for future baby gifts.

Not much sewing lately, I've been cutting up fabric in my scrap box.

New Week - New Quilt

This "Spring Awakening" quilt is finally finished!

I've been planning to make this quilt for several years

and I'm so happy I finally settled on a pattern and

took the time to stitch it up.

I designed this quilt pattern but had plenty

of inspiration from the many "brick" quilts on the internet.

The 50" x 56" quilt is made with 4" x 10" bricks

and 1.5" strips for the mortar sashing.

The fabrics came from my stash,

some had been set aside for just this purpose,

others I pulled when I chose the brick design.

Luck abounded when finding the muslin sashing,

the batting and the surprise* backing in my stash too.

The spring quilt now graces the back of our living room sofa,

adding a little lightness to the winter blues.

(No, this isn't our living room sofa - LOL)

A few shots of the free motion quilting.

The quilting was inspired by the "Endless mums" design

in this book. (I'm not being compensated in any way.)

*The soft pastel backing of this quilt comes with a story.

A few years ago, I realized that my fabric had multiplied.

No, not like little bunny rabbits, but due to the fact that most

cotton quilt fabric has 2 sides - therefore double the possibilities.
Which meant this backing was hiding in my stash!

So when searching your stash or fabric store for just the right color or design,
don't forget to look at both sides of the fabric.

(This may not be an acceptable use of fabric
to the "fabric or quilt police"
so please don't call them - it's our little secret.)

On the left is the top side of the fabric, and on the right the under side,

a soft pastel floral design,

the perfect coordinate for the backing and binding of this quilt.

A Snowy Visitor

we have a snowy visitor at our house.

This is how he looked as I left for work in the fog this morning.

And even though it rained a lot this morning,

he was still looking good when I came home this afternoon.

Ready for Spring

I completed this adorable baby quilt earlier this week.

The 36" x 40" quilt is made from thrift store fabric

and the back is the same purple as the front.

The purple polka-dot and multi-colored print reminds me of spring.

My daughter asked why I made this quilt,

we don't know anyone having a baby girl in the near future.

My response, "I had the fabric and the idea"....

what better reason!

I know we haven't had a cold, hard winter,

but I'm still ready for spring.

So, my next quilting project has a spring flare too.

For now I'm thankful for and

enjoying the sunshine this afternoon!

Quilted Table Runner, with link to free instructions

This quilt was inspired by this Moda Bake Shop blog post.

I made a few changes to the pattern. I used 8 blocks instead of 9

and laid them out in a rectangular format instead of square.

And, I didn't purchase the ruler that is called for,

I just made a paper pattern for the "leaf" shape.

It just took a little playing to get the right shape.

The back is a natural looking fabric, uneven weave but very soft.

The quilting design is nice enough to make the table runner two sided,

a great bonus for my time!

A few close-ups for details.

All the fabric came from my stash, I didn't even have to buy thread.

Love when that is possible!

Remaking a Skirt into an Apron....

this American Eagle skirt.

How cool is that!!!

And the skirt was free, so that's a big plus.

Of course the modern chef must check facebook while

waiting for dough to rise....actually I do that too,

oh the wonders of portable computers.

It feels good to be back in my sewing room creating things.

Coaster Project with link to tutorial

I finally finished a Christmas present!

A fun easy coaster project,

using this tutorial by Jenny B. Harris of Allsorts Makery.com

I made the following modifications.

The directions call for 4.5 inch squares, I used 5 inch.

And instead of fusible web, I used iron on interfacing.

I also top stitched around the outside edge.

These match the kitchen accessories I made earlier this year.

Shirt to Skirt in less than 2 hours

Finished product.......a lovely skirt!

A brief overview.........

We started with a heavyweight, 100% cotton, wrinkle resistant,

L.L.Bean XL tall men's shirt,

purchased at a local thrift store for $2.

Cut the shirt below the chest pocket.

Took in the side seams, added front and back darts

and a waist band, made from sleeve fabric.

What a fun, quick project, and best of all, Andrea loves it !

Not bad for $2 and 2 hours.

New Snack for Fall

One of the girls I work with brought this snack for us yesterday. It was delicious! I made it today, so easy!!! This will be a new favorite for this time of year.

Chex - Pumpkin Pie Crunch from Taste of Home

I changed the recipe slightly. Because I wanted to make a double batch (most will go in the freezer) I didn't have a large enough microwaveable bowl. So, I used my super big stainless steel bowl and baked it in the oven, 250° for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. This is the way I make the Original Chex Mix recipe, it's from those pre-microwave days :)

Russ, look what we saw in the backyard.....

Not a big deal, but this is the first pheasant we've seen in PA since we moved here 6 plus years ago.

He was a little camera shy, but I got a pretty good picture of him and then he ran into the weeds and eventually flew to the other side of our little creek.

The neighbors dog was curious too.

"Finish it up Friday" Diaper Bag Completed

I completed this diaper bag last evening, just in time for Finish it up Friday.

The diaper bag features pleated pockets across the front.

This style pocket was a new challenge for me, I'll be using them more often!

Inside there are 2 slip pockets on one side and....

a large pocket which is more like a divider on the other side.

I used a simple button and loop closure.

I hope the mother-to-be finds this bag useful.

Vintage Sheet Comforter

Recently I completed this comforter for our daughter, Andrea. She wanted a warm, fluffy bed covering for winter not a quilt. I cut 6 vintage sheets, purchased at local thrift stores, into 6" squares and assembled them in a Trip Around The World pattern.

The design doesn't make a big impact but it's the blend from one fabric to another that I appreciate the most. It's like a field of wildflowers :) This will brighten up those winter blues! I also used 2 vintage sheets for the back of the comforter.

The difference between a quilt and a comforter is the way it's constructed. Both have a front panel, a back panel and something sandwiched in the middle (batting, flannel, wadding, a blanket, etc.). The layers of a quilt are stitched together by hand or machine with thread. A comforter is tied or knotted together with yarn or crochet thread and usually has a thicker batting. I had a challenge with trying to knot this comforter. I'm not sure if it was the extra thick batting I used, or the yarn, or the needle, or just me, but I could not get the threaded needle to go through all the layers. So I found another way....

I sewed small x's at the intersections of the blocks where I was going to tie the knots. It serves the same purpose just no fuzzy threads.

From this picture you can get an idea how thick this comforter is....it is so cushy and comfy. And by using the vintage sheets, it already feels soft and well loved.

Just had to hang the new comforter on the clothes line for a few pictures too. Now if there was just snow on the ground this picture would be perfect, but I'm not wishing for the white stuff yet!

Well, that's one more thing crossed off my to-do list....seems like every time I cross something off I add 2 more items....at least I'll never be bored.....teehee. I still have lots of partial and some full vintage sheets leftover, anyone interested in trying a new project just let me know!

Birthday and Retreat Goodies

Recently I found an interesting piece of fabric at a local thrift store. 2 yards at $2/yard, not a steal, eBay has it for $3 a yard but I didn't have to pay shipping. After on-line research, I found that this sturdy camo fabric is used by hunters to make blinds in the woods and for hunting clothes.

Of couse I had to make a bag, a Super Sized Tote to be exact, and I thought it was the perfect birthday present for my mountain loving sister.

I added a feminine touch with the addition of a purple (her favorite color) monogram.

A buckle was used as a weight for the tab/flap closure. The inside features a large divider and 2 slip pockets.

As a thank-you gift, I made this across the body bag for my Aunt who hosted my sister and me for a quilting/sewing retreat this month. I made her a bag this style in the past, so I thought she may need a new one. The stripes go different directions on each side....nothing fancy, just a simple design element. She loved the bag!

And lastly as a little gift for the retreat crew, I made these little fobs featuring thrift store thimbles, beads from my stash and scissor charms purchased at JoAnn Fabrics. I use the turquoise one as a zipper pull on my new purse. They could also be attached to a key ring or strap ring on a bag.

We had a great retreat....unfortunately one of my sisters got the flu so didn't make it, but we are hoping to get together again to sew!!! We did a lot of sewing and chatting, a perfect way to reconnect with the skills passed down through generations....Thank You Grandma H. and Mother - we love and miss you both! And Thank You Aunt Louise and Carlene for helping to start a new tradition :)

Free Motion Quilting

Over the past few years, I have enjoyed the challenge of Free Motion Quilting (FMQ). The internet has been my main source of instruction and inspiration. FMQ takes lots of practice, but I think of it as doodling with fabric, machine and thread, instead of paper and pen. It's just plain fun to me!!!

These pictures are a few samples of my FMQ work.

Vintage Sheet Collection becomes ?????

I finally have enough to start a new project.

Refinished / repurposed furniture project

Today, Greg and I just completed refinishing this pine corner cupboard.

It sits next to our tv and will hold dvd's, etc. I'm tired of messy, open shelves.

The cabinet was a purchased at a local Amish used furniture store.

The owner goes to auctions and buy furniture, etc. to resell.

I tried to get an aged look.

After a light sanding (Greg's part), I painted the cabinet antique white.

Then I added black paint to a glaze base,

brushed it on and wiped it off until I got the affect I wanted.

....we really like the finished project!

We spray painted the brass colored hardware in hammered dark gray.

Greg also did all the tearing apart and reassembling.

I forgot to take a before picture, this is the side of the drawer,

the only part of the cabinet I didn't paint.

So you can get an idea of the original cabinet color.

I do like this look but I wouldn't want all my furniture like this.

Besides it's a lot of work, now back to sewing projects :)

Aqua anyone?

I found this awesome aqua textured fabric for a new bag.

Trust me the color is better in person :)

I also found more of this rich dark brown fabric, I used it once before.

The pictures don't show it, but the brown fabric has a leather look,

although it's soft and easy to work with.

After lots of trials and errors, ripping and redoing,

I learned a lot and I love the result.

This bag features an outside pocket and a zip closure.

It's fully lined, with pockets inside too.

I used heavy interfacing to help the bag keep it's shape.

Time will tell if it keeps that shape.

Thankfully,

I have enough fabric to make another bag,

if this one doesn't work for me.

Now it's time to get ready for a special sewing/quilting retreat with my sisters and Aunt.

New style bag and a special blessing

I finally finished a new style bag. The bag has a zipper closure and pockets both inside and out. (It reminds me of a flat bottom taco....teehee.) This bag is fairly big, but I think a small version would be cute too - may have to work on that some day....but not soon, my "to do" list is huge.

See all that wood in the background, we have been blessed with 4 pick-up truck loads of cut, split and stacked firewood. Thanks to a special couple from our church, we will be toasty this winter!

Enjoying a beautiful day today since Irene passed by. We had 1.2 inches of rain and lots of wind but no damage.....thinking of all those who were not as fortunate.

Texas bound.....

I shipped this diaper bag to a special mommy-to-be in Texas. As a teenager, she spent many summers providing child care for our daughters. She will always hold a special spot in our hearts. We pray she and her husband and have a safe delivery and healthy baby girl.

A special baby gift.....

Our friends, Andrea & Caleb are expecting their first baby, a little girl. I made a fun quilt to celebrate their anticipated joy.

Andrea is a Cinderella fan, so one side is a vintage Cinderella sheet and.....

Caleb is a Donald Duck fan, so the other side features blocks cut from a vintage sheet and a fun polka-dot fabric.

And of course a diaper bag. Made to order from a piece of fabric Andrea gave me.

Many blessing to the new family and prayers for the safe arrival of their baby girl.

Kitchen Accessories

Recently I completed these quilted kitchen accessories of a friend.

This runner is about 21" square with the corners angled.

Coordinating placemats, 6 of each color.

I used extra curtain panels (that match the curtain in her kitchen)

on the back of the runner and placemats.

Making these items reversible and coordinating!

And finally appliance covers......mixer, blender & toaster.

These were time consuming, but well worth the investment.....I love the result!

Graduation Quilt

Our younger daughter is graduating from highschool. I made a "favorite quotes" quilt to celebrate her accomplishment. She selected the quotes, I made the magic :) We both love the result....music & words.....2 of her loves!

We displayed the quilt for her graduation party.

As her last days of school wind down we have been super busy but somehow I find time to sew - it's my stress relief, LOL - I'll post recent bag creations soon.

Quilting Videos & Sneak Peak......

I received an email today about new free quilting how-to-videos on-line at McCall's Quilting. I've only watched one so far and it was very informative and well done.

Shirts + Jean pockets = Memory Quilts

A friend from church asked me to make 2 throw-size quilts using his belated father's shirts and jeans. These were flannel and cotton shirts, many of them used while working on the farm....I included back pockets from the jeans.

This wasn't a hard project except for the part where I cut into the clothes. It's not physically hard, but it certainly is an emotional journey.

I also included a small blue jean patch, there was a hole in one of the shirts that I didn't notice until I was at the quilting stage. I think it fits the "feel" of the quilt :)

I LOVE the results!

Baby Gift Project

I purchased this pattern several years ago, but just now tried it. A nice spring weight jacket, just 2 layers of cotton fabric, although it could be made using fleece or quilted fabric for extra warmth. I think I'll be making more of these for baby gifts.

More vintage quilts........

After posting about the vintage quilts in my care, my Aunt Louise sent me pictures of the vintage quilts she has.

This one with lots of small squares was pieced and quilted by my grandmother.

An old quilt also made by my grandmother.

This one was handed down from step great great grandmother.

I LOVE this pattern!

This is the last baby quilt my grandmother quilted.

My Aunt purchased it at Shalom Christian Academy's benefit auction.

An old "whole cloth" quilt, meaning it's made of one piece of fabric with a border, instead of pieced with many fabrics.

At least that's what I'm guessing from the picture :)

A lone star quilt, pieced by Louise and quilted by her mother (my grandmother).

Another quilt pieced and quilted by my grandmother.

Through this discovery of vintage quilts, we have decided to hold a nieces day at Aunt Louise's next fall. We are planning to do some quilting (she has several tops that are pieced just waiting to be quilted) and lots of visiting. I can't wait to see these quilts in person.......so much love, time and talent have gone into making these treasures!!!

Here are 4 vintage quilts that I treasure.

This log cabin quilt was pieced by my grandmother, Catherine Hawbaker and hand quilted in 1990 by my mother, Elaine Hawbaker Horst.....they were both very creative and talented quilters.

Not sure of the history behind this quilt...I know it came from my mother, but not sure if she pieced and/or quilted it.

Wish I had some yardage of this "funky" print :)

I'm thinking this comforter (it's tied not quilted) was made by my grandmother. Although it may have been finished by my mother.

* * * * * * *

This gem is made from feed sack fabric, it is a comforter and is in bad shape. I'm not sure if I ever used it, or if it came to me in this condition. The batting is all wadded up and lumpy.....but I LOVE the prints and look. Someday if I'm brave enough I may take the ties out, remove the back and put in new batting.....I'm afraid it will fall apart if I try.......but it's been in my cedar chest for so long, it really should be enjoyed.

The backing is a dark print.

Winter = Sewing

Last week I was in a bag making mood, I even tried two new styles. I managed to use only fabrics that were in my stash and a thrifted blue jean jumper.

Ruffled Sling Bag, with a snap closure and slip pockets inside.

This Sashed Sling Bag is made from a jumper and features a pocket that was on the jumper. This bag has a snap closure and slip pockets inside. The sash is not attached so could be replaced with a belt or scarf.

This purse is my favorite style to use. Featuring a zip closure and lots of pockets inside and out.

New - Vintage Quilt

Our daughter loves quilts on her bed. One that she loves and uses was made by my grandmother and is showing lots of wear, so I've requested that she no longer use it. She was looking for a replacement so I dug this vintage quilt out of my cedar chest. My mother believed in keeping our hands busy, my sister and I made these state bird/flower blocks as children. We each made our own set of all 50 states. Mother later stitched them into a quilt. Mine has lived in my cedar chest I suppose since I've had a cedar chest....nearly 30 years.

Does anyone remember "liquid embroidery"? Yes, this is painted design not thread. And the quilting was done by hand.....thanks Mom!!!

Last Sewing Project for 2010

This fun quilt is for my family. It is made from a "Snoopy's" thrifted sheet and fabric from my stash.

The back is half of a flannel duvet cover....a great thrift store find, 2 quilt backs for one low price :)

Christmas Quilting Project

Used scraps of fabric for the pieced side and Christmas fabric for the other.

"Pretty in Purple" Diaper Bag

This diaper bag is made from prequilted fabric, purple flower on one side and the coordinating stripe on the other. The purple fabric is used to cover the raw edges of the quilted fabric.

Inside, a zippered pocket and .....

2 large slip pockets.

This one is a Christmas gift for my son-in-laws co-worker. Hope she likes it!

Birthday Quilt

I made a quilt for my younger daughter's 18th birthday. It's a quilt for her to use at college, it's not fancy but it is warm, cuddly and cute.

The pieced side features fabric with music themes, she's planning to major in music performance, she loves to sing :)

The back side is fleece that looks like an indian blanket.

Diaper Bags Galore........

Over the next few months I will be making and gifting 4 diaper bags with accessories. Seems it's the season for babies :)

This diaper bag is a standard style that I make, 2 front pockets, and an elastic topped pocket on each side panel.

Black bags are so hard to photograph so here's a close-up of this fabulous fabric, it has a nice sheen and texture.

The inside features 2 pockets on one side and a zippered pocket on the other side (note green ribbon attached to the zipper pull) for small and/or personal items.

I also made a burp cloth (a prefolded cloth diaper with flannel sewn on the center section) and a mini cuddle blankie with teether link.

Bag contest entries.....

I made 2 bags to enter in the 5th Annual Fall 2010 Hand Bag Contest at Old Trail Fabric's in Selinsgrove. The rules allow for submitting 3 bags, but my 3rd bag isn't finished yet.

The striped one is a shoulder bag/purse, with a snap closure. The ribbons can be untied to allow the bag to expand.

Lots of pockets inside, 3 slip and 1 zippered....

The purple 'retro' fabric bag is a super-sized tote with rick-rack trim. Big enough for a weekend away....oh how I wish :)

Also with 2 slip pockets and a divider....

The contest ends Saturday, so I'm dropping mine off tomorrow.

A Quilt for "Grandma"

My best friend is going to be a Grandma soon. I just had to make her a quilt 'cause that's how I celebrate! :)

This is an extra special quilt, it is made from the scraps of the signature quilt I made for her daughter and son-in-law's (the soon-to-be parents) wedding. The original quilt patches were signed as a guest book and then assembled into a memory quilt. So this new quilt commerates the marriage and the new baby!

Quilting Sneak Peak

I'm working on a small quilt, as a gift, so I can't show the front, but I'm loving the way the design is showing up on the back. The swirly effect is free-motion, sort of like doodling with a sewing machine and the straight lines are done with a walking foot.

Vintage and Scrap Fabric Bag

Unlike recent years, 2010 has not been a year for me making lots of bags. However, I had the "itch" for a new bag and I can no longer purchase one that suits me, so I got busy sewing.

The flowered fabric is vintage bark cloth, purchased at a local thrift store and the aqua and black fabrics were scraps from other projects. I just love using scraps, they are like buried treasures in my sewing room! This bag is large, maybe too large, we will see :)

The bag is perched on our new hammock, we all love this new comfy spot in our backyard, that may be one reason I'm not getting much sewing done! I have so many projects swimming around in my head, it's just time to get some started.....and I just now thought about Christmas, wonder what gifts I will make this year.....keep watching ;)

Challenging Necktie Project....

Recently I completed the most challenging project I've ever attempted. I was given several boxes of vintage neckties and asked to use them in a project. After meeting with Nancy (the ties belonged to her late father), we decided pillow covers would be a good idea. I machine appliqued the neckties to a base fabric that was reinforced with woven iron-on interfacing. I used smoke colored transparent nylon thread and a simple zig-zag.

This cover is for a body pillow. It was made using whole ties (they were cut down to size).

My next project will not be nearly as challenging.....at least I hope not :)
I'll be working on a quilt for my bed, it's almost finished, I just need to make a few design decisions and then quilt it.

T-shirt Quilt Journey

Here's a brief view into the making of a t-shirt quilt.....this quilt is for a friend of my Aunt Louise.

I start by preparing my t-shirt blocks and arranging them until I like the layout......

I then randomly sew fabric strips to each block to fill in the spaces. Connect all the blocks.....

Add a border and quilt.....TAADAA!

Of course it's not that easy but who wants to (or has time to) go into all the boring details :) Although if you'd like to try this project and need some tips just email me.

It's hard to tell from the full quilt photo but there are 4 different blue fabrics used in this quilt.

This project is fun and creative. I could use some mathematical formula for preparing the layout etc, but I don't I just let the creativity flow and enjoy the result :)

Some day I hope to create t-shirt quilts for my daughters, I've been saving their t-shirts for years! Just one of the many projects on my to-do list :)

First Finished Project in 2010

This is a late Christmas present for our daughter Andrea. A 50" x 70" denim and flannel throw for in her car. Great for picnics, football games, etc. It's comfy just like your favorite jeans and flannel shirt :)

I started this project on New Year's Eve.....due to a new challenge in my life (vertigo) I have been away from my sewing room for a couple weeks. The vertigo isn't as bad now or I'm getting used to dealing with it.....so I'm sewing again, but I don't think I'll be turning out the volume of projects that I'm used to. Maybe it's good for me to slow down a little.....lol

Christmas Around our House

Just thought I'd share some pictures before I "put Christmas away" for this year.

I display different wall-hangings in our stairway throughout the year.

I bought this manger scene soon after we were married....a.k.a. it's an antique!

I made Heather and Andrea's stockings years ago. I found the leftover fabric in my sewing room (amazing after moving twice) and made Andy one to coordinate.

Yep, I made 4 bags in the past 2 weeks.......but I can only show you one of them, the other 3 will have to wait until after Christmas :)

The color isn't the greatest on these pictures, the solid is a bright navy blue, and the print contains various shades of blue and cream.......I guess I should have waited till daylight to take the pictures.....oh well, you get the idea.

It has a snap closure, I usually prefer a zipper, but I'm really liking this style.

A few years ago I gave a friend of Heather's a little wallet. She loves it and wanted a few for her friends. So I made these.....

It's hard to see but there is a pocket just above the zipper for plastic cards or cash.

These little projects are great for using up scraps of fabric and thanks to the 10cent zippers I find at our local thrift store they don't break the bank :)

A friend from the mid-west asked me to create a bag from fabric she had left after making a vest. The fabric was prequilted, paisley on one side, stripe on the other and BEAUTIFUL!

I made the bag last week and mailed it to her, she received the bag and is pleased! I am too!

Productive week......

This large shopping tote (17" wide x 14" tall) has been donated to Camp Eder for their Annual Fall Fest Auction on Oct. 17th. The inside is repurposed denim and the outside fabrics are John Deere prints and homespun plaids/checks. These totes are easy to make but messy with lots of little frayed pieces of thread everywhere!

This Christmas wallhanging is a gift for the family at church who lost their home to fire. It's 35" square.

Here's a closeup of the backing fabric.

These were both "stash buster" projects, I didn't purchase a thing....yippee!!!

A New Tote

I made this tote to use at a conference I recently attended. This bag is large, like brief case size. The circle fabric on the front and back is the same, but appears different colors in the pictures. The fabric is decorator weight and has a sheen to it. It is really hard to photograph and get a true color. The bag is dark brown and teal.

The bag features 2 pockets on the front, one with a magnetic snap closure.

And the back has a full size pocket with magnetic snap closure.

The inside is fully lined with a zippered pocket and 2 large slip pockets.

I love this bag but won't use it often so I'm giving it to a friend....ENJOY!

The bag features front and side pockets made from a fun animal print. The side pockets have elastic at the top and are great for bottles/sippy cups.

And I didn't have to purchase a thing.....it all came from my stash!

Hobo-style Bag featuring chickens & sunflowers

The photos are of both sides of the bag. This fabric is pre-quilted and double sided. The other side is solid sunflowers but because I use interfacing to make my bags more sturdy you don't see the sunflowers inside, I lined it with white fabric. There is one zippered pocket and 4 slip pockets inside.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this quilt. It's made from a thrifted bed sheet. And actually I made a big mistake, the large white blocks were suppoed to be the yellow flowered fabric......but after I decided to do the freestyle daisy quilting in the white squares, I LOVE IT, so much so that I may not be able to part with it...LOL...and you know I don't need a baby quilt!!!

This and the next small quilts will be donated to a local hospital NICU. They like small colorful quilts to put over the isolets. This is the first crazy patching I tried, it worked but I need to work on this technique.
The border fabric of the pink quilt was from a thrifted bed sheet and the fabric used for the blue quilt was originally curtains in Heather's bedroom....love sewing with repurposed fabrics :-)

Back to working on purses.....or maybe I'll finished the quilt I've been making for my bed. I make quilts for lots of people, but don't have one that I made on my own bed, how silly is that!!!

Black and White is HOT, well at least popular lately

A web-friend ordered a new purse for her birthday. Her son helped select the fabric and design the bag. He did a SUPER job!

After posting a photo of this bag on Facebook, my niece decided she wanted an updated diaper bag from the same fabrics. Here's what I came up with.....she LOVES it!

I've called this a "diaper tote", it's features an outside, cell phone pocket with a magnetic snap/flap closure.......

and 2 full size compartments with magnetic snap closures and a zippered center compartment. There is also a small zip pocket and 2 slip pockets inside the center compartment.

This bag would also work well as an updated briefcase or laptop carry-all. The outside compartments challenged me, but I really like how it turned out.

A friend requested a new diaper bag, to match her stroller and not too girly.....here's what I came up with

she loves it and so does her hubby!

the inside has 2 large pockets for diapers and wipes.

This bag was made in the same design as many of the purses I make. I think it's the first diaper bag I made with a zipper.

The reception.......

This rocking chair welcomed and directed guests, it now sits on my front porch....

A short video was played to announce the arrival of the couple....

The Bride & Groom arrived at the reception by skipping across a bridge....

The peanut butter icing on the chocolate wedding cake was melting and sliding off the cake, so they cut the cake before the meal....

Andrea sang to the couple as a surprise wedding gift....
