Christmas Quilts

These are the Christmas quilts I made for my family.
Last year I asked family members to bring Christmas fabric to our family celebration.
I used that fabric and added some of my own to create these 4 quilts.
There are 26 different fabrics plus the white background.

This "Trip Around the World" quilt is for my parents,
the travelers of the family.

"Snowball blast" quilt for my brother,
he threw plenty of snowballs in our childhood.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star" for my younger sister,
we are close in age and did lots of singing together.

And finally, "Christmas ~ Irish Chain" for my youngest sister.
Not really a reason for this one, but it's one of my favorite quilt patterns
and I thought she'd like all the little details of the applique.
Now I wish I would have taken a close-up picture of each applique.

Here's a shot of the quilts before quilting and applique.

This was a fun project, now I need to make myself one with the remaining fabric.
Isn't that the way it goes quilters, we make quilts for everyone but ourselves.

Merry Christmas!
Carolyn

Edited to add this picture of the labels, now I wish I would have taken pictures
of the backs of the quilts also.......guess I was so excited about the
finished quilts that I forgot about some important photos.

A sneak peak....Christmas quilts

It's snowing today, so I just had to go out in the snow and take pictures of the quilts I'm working on.

But since these are Christmas surprises, it's only a sneak peak.

The piecing is finished, now on to the quilting.

Enjoy your weekend!

Special Request Purse #4 (and it's the last one)

This purse was quite the challenge and that's why it took so long to make.
It wasn't hard to make, the design was one I've used before
BUT
it was just deciding how to piece the striped body of the bag that slowed the process.

I was using scraps, which can also get tricky -
kept running out of fabric so had to check my stash for more coordinates.....fun, fun.
Just nothing like taking several fabrics and sewing them together
to create a new, unique piece of fabric :)

I'm so glad I took my time because I'm very happy with the results!

Time to move on to Christmas projects, so I may not be back until the new year.

Enjoy this special time of year!

Special Request Purse #3

This special order was "out of my comfort zone" to say the least.
The design wasn't the problem, but the fabric was another story.
It has a metallic gold sheen, is very slick, hard to iron without melting
(you don't need to ask how I learned that...lol)
and just generally unstable.
This is one of the reasons I don't usually use fabric provided by others.
But this is for a very special friend who has supported me for years.
So I did my best - I'm sure she will love it.

Next up a fun purse featuring a fabric tie.
Enjoy your weekend!

Special Request Purse #2

A special friend from Missouri requested a blue, crazy quilt purse.
It's a Christmas gift to herself.
I shipping it out last week, but didn't want to post pictures
until after she received the bag.

Lisa, received her purse and loves it!

Pumpkin Patch is empty......

This pumpkin was a special order for a friend at work.
She provided some of the fabrics.
The picture doesn't show it but the black blocks with
pumpkins and candy corn contains glitter.
Love the special added touch of the sparkle.

2 pumpkins were made and added to
2 leftover from the craft sale to make a set of 4.

These will be shipped to Florida tomorrow.

Of course, I kept the first pumpkin I made for myself.

Now on to some special request purses and
finally to Christmas projects!

Enjoy your day!

Pumpkin mini-quilts

Yes, I've gone a little crazy with the pumpkin mini-quilts.
These measure approx. 18" X 15".
Just the right size to display on a table, door or wall.

The back of each mini-quilt is pre-quilted muslin.
The free-motion quilting shows up nicely.

Back to the sewing machine :)

4 Bags and a Pumpkin Mini-Quilt

This weeks work resulted in 4 bags for the missions fundraiser.

Smallish purple and gray chevron bag with snap closure
and detachable rolled rose detail.

Gray, black and wine plaid bag is a little bigger than the chevron
and also has a snap closure.

This large tote bag is very sturdy and reversible.
Great for an overnight bag, kid stuff, needlework or even office work

Another large, sturdy tote bag.
It stands alone nicely so has lots of potential.

The sunset shown in the blog banner was
the inspiration I needed to kick this project in gear.
I'm really loving the result so will probably keep it for myself.
This quilted pumpkin mat is the size of a large placemat.

I'd love to make more of these, but don't have many scraps in these colors.
If time permits, I know I can do one more, but I'm trying to eek out 2.

This project was a nice diversion since I have depleated most of the
essential supplies needed in bag making and I'm waiting to get a good deal
at a local fabric store this weekend.

Stay tuned....this cooler, wet weather is great for sewing.

Cross body recycled denim bag.

Denim and lace wristlet.

Next up is a purple and gray chevron bag...it's so cute.

Happy Fall!
